Development plan / Milestones
for each milestone, the minimum required points to release that version are given; additional goals (best effort basis) are printed in Italics.
0.1 (at METIS science team meeting, 2-4 May 2018)
- Simcado with bug fixes to support simulations at 3-20 microns
- Configuration files for METIS LM and NQ band imaging
- Transmission curves (sky emission / absorption, mirror reflectivity, entrance window, detector QE, dichroic transmission, filter curves) extended and/or adapted for METIS LM and NQ bands
- iPython notebooks with example use cases for both LM and NQ band imaging
- output fluxes in LM and NQ band imaging verified against Roy’s fluxes document
0.2 (before summer break)
- output fluxes in LM and NQ band imaging verified against Roy’s fluxes document
- create pickled OpticalTrain objects for all METIS imaging observing modes for faster operation
0.3 (dependent on Simcado development)
- Long-slit mode implemented
- Sensitivities verified against Roy’s fluxes document
0.4 (dependent on Simcado development)
- IFU mode implemented
- Sensitivities verified against Roy’s fluxes document

1.0 (dependent on Simcado development and humanpower available at NOVA)
- All METIS modes implemented, tested and verified against theoretical expectations and/or actual observations with similar instruments
- Example notebooks available and reproducibly executable for all METIS modes
- Adapt Simcado for VISIR and verify against actual observations
Future developments by Simcado classes
OpticalTrain- include time-resolved jitter effects
- include sub-pixel shifts for spectro-spatial effects for Vortex coronagraphy
- instrument-internal emission (possibly requiring a different treatment of the global transmission/emission model)
- List of transmissive elements (e.g. multiple dichroics currently not supported)
- Implement fixed ADCs (give residuals of the partial atmospheric dispersion correction as static input?)
Detector- Aquarius noise generator (including ELFN, non-linear gain curve, correlated noise)
- Chopping and nodding (including chop-difference residuals?)
